Pick 5: how to play, odds and draw times
Choose a 5-digit number from 00000 to 99999. The lottery draws one 5-digit number, usually twice a day, and you win if yours matches the way you played it: straight (exact order) or box (any order). 9 lotteries in the US and Canada draw Pick 5, 17 times a day in all.

Straight and box
A straight play wins only on the exact order. A box play wins on any order of your digits, so it covers more draws but pays less. How many orders a box covers depends on how many of your digits repeat.
| Play | Example | Orders covered | Odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Straight | 12345 | 1 | 1 in 100,000 |
| 120-way box (five different digits) | 12345 | 120 | 1 in 833 |
| 60-way box (one pair) | 11234 | 60 | 1 in 1,667 |
| 30-way box (two pairs) | 11223 | 30 | 1 in 3,333 |
| 20-way box (one digit three times) | 11123 | 20 | 1 in 5,000 |
| 10-way box (a pair and a triple) | 11222 | 10 | 1 in 10,000 |
| 5-way box (one digit four times) | 11112 | 5 | 1 in 20,000 |
Every draw is random: each 5-digit number has the same chance every time, whatever came up before.
