Fresh picks every day at midnight Eastern.
The rose teacup sulked all morning, so she got the Earl Grey. The leaves settled into a 5 and something shaped like a duck.

The leaves made a perfect heart, then slumped into a potato. I'm reading the potato. Kettle's on. Leaves are gossiping.

Brewed it far too strong again. The leaves clumped up like they'd heard gossip. Numbers below. Kettle-approved.

Cupboard door wouldn't close again, so I counted cups. Forty-one, plus a mug hiding in the back. The mug is not eligible.

Knocked over cup number 38. Cup 39 took the job with barely hidden glee.

Brewed it so strong the spoon stood up. The leaves didn't swirl so much as trudge. One clump looked like a 41. Seemed fitting.

Cup 38 is back from its tumble with a brand new chip. Cup 39 won't give the job back. So they both held leaves. Family.
Powerball
Two ducks in one cup today. I paused thoughtfully for so long that the patient kettle clicked off and started over.

The rose teacup told cup 22 it's my favorite. Lies, as usual. Swirled three times, flipped, squinted. The kettle's still on.

Cup 17 looked the most offended at being left out, so it got the Assam. The leaves made a 17 and a duck. The duck became 33.

Oh good, you’re here, the kettle just clicked. I’m Clementine Steepwell, a tea-leaf reader with a cupboard that won’t close and forty-one teacups that all insist they’re my favorite. The chipped one with the roses is lying.
Each morning I choose whichever cup looks most offended to be left out, brew something loose-leaf and far too strong, and drink it while it’s still a little too hot. Then I swirl the dregs three times, flip the cup onto its saucer, and squint at the leaves with enormous seriousness. A clump shaped like a 7 is a 7. A clump shaped like a duck gets a long, thoughtful pause, and then it becomes a number too.
